Where are all the girl children?
Modern medical technology has led to a dramatic decrease in the number of girls who are born in parts of the world.

In parts of China and India are born today 120-130 boys for every 100 girls who come to the world. The normal ratio is 103-106 boys for 100 girls, writes The Economist. At a hospital in Punjab in northern India were the only girls who were born, those who by mistake was rated as boys during ultrasound examination. Some were born twin with a boy.
Scientists call it "gendercide" ( "sex murder"). It's about the born fewer and fewer girls than boys. Within a few generations, this can have dramatic consequences.
Conflicts
The British news magazine The Economist has compiled the results of research about this phenomenon. They draw terrifying prospects that in some countries may end up with a large majority of bachelors in a few years. It is feared again to give more crime, more authoritarian governance and the new cultural conflicts.
To opt out of girl babies is a desirable development in large parts of the world. It is not solely a result of China's policy of allowing only couples are allowed to have a child, or a consequence of poverty and ignorance. Also modern, well-educated and affluent couples in many countries prefer sons over daughters, according to a study conducted by the World Bank.
Global trend
Population Expert Nick Eberstad the think tank American Enterprise Institute in Washington said this development is not impact any adopted policies in some countries.
-It is a fatal clash between the excessive desire for a son, the use of rapidly spreading fetal diagnosis and declining fertility, "says Eberstad.
This is a global trend. The development is registered in populous countries like China and India, in modern societies like South Korea and Taiwan, and in former communist states of the Soviet bloc and eksjugoslaviske countries in the Balkans. Also in the Asian-American communities in the United States are born more boys than girls beyond what is considered to be normal.
Gender Specific abortion
Ultrasound studies that can determine a fetus gender, has now become so common and inexpensive that even the poorest can afford to pay such a survey, which cost around 12 dollars (70 U.S.). Although gender-specific abortion was banned in India in 1994 and in China in 1995, the practice remains widespread.
The introduction of ultrasonography led to the doctors in India started ad campaigns with the message: "Pay 5,000 rupees (650 U.S.) today and save 50,000 rupees (6,500 U.S.) in the morning." 50,000 rupee was spending to a daughter's dowry.
Reverses trend?
The Economist writes that there are bright spots:
At least one country - South Korea - have managed to turn it of cultural desire to give birth to boys, and have thus reduced the disparity between the number of newborn boys and girls.
There is reason to believe that even China and India will follow, writes the news magazine.
