It would be funny because the current situation in which girls are undervalued will lead directly to a shortage of girls which will result in girls being valued more than boys, and the current attitude that gives preference to men over women is liable to lead to a situation in which preference is given to women over men. That is to say, the current pro-masculine prejudice will lead directly to pro-feminine prejudice, as scarcity of women will drive men in such societies to make great concessions in order to find wives. I think that is rather ironic, and funny. However, I should note that a "brideprice" system by itself is unlikely to change attitudes about women's roles in societies, as many societies where a brideprice is common still discriminate against women. However, changing the perception (and the reality in many places) that a girl is a burden might at least address this gender imbalance. Baldur ![]() |
