I think that mating with prepubescent females is also likely to offer a reproductive advantage because it ensures that when your mate does become fertile, you are there before anyone else. That's a valid point, though of course it relies on the male sticking with the child up to or past the point of pubescence. In any event, I think it's likely that both reproductive and non-reproductive pressures were involved in shaping pedophilic orientations, with the former playing a larger role the closer the object of desire comes to pubescence. One last thing: "I do not view hebephilia as a paraphilia" Why thank you! I don't view pedophilia as a paraphilia either. Maybe paraphilia was the wrong word there. I don't really see pedophilia as a paraphilia either but as a full-fledged sexual orientation. What I meant was that hebephilia shouldn't even have to be classed separately from teleiophilia--to me it is just an extension of that sexual orientation to the lower end of its age spectrum, which happens to encompass an age range that is illegal. |
