You're right, it was a bad example. I tend not to consider the naturalistic fallacy in making decisions. But in this case I did, and I invited it in turn. I should never have mentioned the animal kingdom in this context. I won't make the mistake again. We are far different from every other animal in most regards, and we have the ability to mimic what is useful to us and eschew the rest. Are we always right? Of course not. But that doesn't mean we should drop everything that separates us from the animals.
Further, human society is sophisticated enough that we could actually find means of helping children of a reasonably cognizant age achieve independence at an earlier age than has been the case historically. Yet we have actually gone backwards in that regard rather than forwards; kids in past eras, with much less productive capacity and technology than our previous post-industrial society, typically became independent of their families much sooner than is the case today.
Yes, I would support that. We could use a Krell brain-boosting machine. ;-)
Which is why it's important for such action as Cuteness describes to take place, so those of us who are involved in the advancement of our emanciation can gradually encourage more MAPs to join the movement in large numbers. We have to inspire by example. All movements start out small. I would be willing to bet that MAAs are not nearly as small a minority as the public likes to think.
Look, I'm not saying our movement is hopelessly doomed. I just think timing is everything, and we're a long way away from being considered a minority worth protecting, much less earning rights for kids.
