I do not fear your everyday Muslim in the least, lgsinmyheart.
Euh? Do I? Ok...
I do fear the Jihadist Muslim clerics who fanatically call for the death of the non Muslim world, my dear one.
Fear them. But first identify them. And at no point let your fear interfere with your rationality.
to actively mail my opinion to my congresspeople-both State and Federal.
This is exactly why I posted it. That is officially a waste of time now. Now you have to mail the Executive. The Executive bypasses all other branches.
If you want to clear the name in vain of a man who pondered how to annihilate my friends in a dirty mushroom cloud your singing in the wrong key to keep my attention.
If asking for due process is asking to clear his name, I can only sigh.
It is no less a bill of attainder if it is one against Hitler than if it is one against Pollyanna.
What disturbs me is just that!
Today it was someone who, realistically and rationally, can be said to be a dangerous person.
But history tells us it doesn't end there. History tells us arbitrary measures that start with a veneer of necessity for a real pressing danger turn to be used against progressively less and less dangerous, and less and less related, individuals.
Tomorrow it will be us. You and me. And the YFs we leave behind will suffer for it. Tomorrow someone will sign an order to assassinate Jack McClellan because he is too noisy to bear, but he hasn't broken any law so he is impossible to arrest properly. Then someone will sign an order for a GCer, because they "think about child abuse". Then for a tween caught with another, because we all know it is only the beginning of a long life of illegal acts. And on and on. Because I care what I would be leaving to the children is that I cannot swallow bypassing procedures designed precisely to avoid arbitrary and discretionary measures. If that's clearing the name of who they were used against, then I blame those who put them there in the first place. I wouldn't have to defend terrorists if the good guys (TM) had followed due process instead of expediency.
But here are some girls for you:
