First of all, we are not the gays. Second of all, this is not the 1950s. Third of all, "fake nice" as you put it (I call it manners) is standard social procedure for getting anywhere. Forth of all, I don't buy the claim that it got the gays nowhere. This statement is clearly made by someone who has a radical agenda. I know a gay who was a young man in the '50s and he tells me that, while this was ineffective in the short term, in the long term the "kill 'em with kindness" approach was quite effective and that they never would've gotten where they are today without it. Things like Stonewall were important too for short term goals, but such radical actions would not have been very effective in the long run and, taken alone, actually might've set them back. I'm inclined to believe he is right.
