Manners is being nice for a stranger who has never done anything specific to you to "deserve" you acting nice.

What LOD means is being nice to someone who has done something specific to you to not deserve you being nice.

Sorry, but manners are a lot broader than that. And I don't think "fake nice" or manners quite describes what Sheepy and I were talking about anyway. I think it's beyond merely gauche to go around saying, "I want such-and-such people to be tortured and killed." It betrays an essential quality of character that, for starters, isn't going to make people feel more comfortable about you wanting to have sex with their kids. And frankly, it makes me feel pretty suspicious about your mentality too. If I feel that way, how much more so do non-MAPs? Do you really think that's the direction we should go? It's bad enough polluting this board with that kind of mentality, but it would be fucking disastrous if we marched around saying that outside of our quiet little corner of the Internet.

And it's not standard procedure for anything. Go and read blog posts published in August, during the debt standoff, and see if they are being fake nice between both positions. Of course they weren't, and would even take justified offense at the suggestion they "have manners".

Yes, well it's true that politics has gotten pretty nasty. You really want to model yourself/this community on politicians and pundits? Really? No thank you.

And I ultimately agree with you that the situation is different and that being radical won't lead us anywhere. I just think the causes for both are bigger and certainly supersede the choice of tactics. The situation is different because there is no going back from our ultimate extermination. At least gays were good dancers, hairdressers and couture designers and everyone tolerated them for that; we are good teachers and priests but explicitly forbidden from both so we lose our applicable social purpose and nobody defends us because of a simile to "who will do my hair when gays are no more?" With this, being nice or radical is indifferent when you are already in Auschwitz - either way your days are counted.

Well, I'm sorry but I'm not going to run my life on the fantastically remote possibility of a pedo holocaust. I have enough shit to worry about in my life.
