Girls on Film--100 Movies

Hello GC,

A few months ago (half a year maybe even?) I posted a website I'd started working on chronicling movies that had little girls under the temporary name "Girl Watcher Movies". There were just a few movies listed there at the time, and I'm still nowhere near the amount that, say, Clover Films has, but I hope to be more extensive even if I can't be more exhaustive. But, I digress. I'm posting because just a few minutes ago I added the hundredth movie to the database, and we've recently also passed 200 actresses and 300 screencaps.

Some things that have changed since I first posted, which anyone who's been checking the site will have noticed already:

- We're now "Girls on Film", the name "Girl Watcher Movies" was only ever intended to be temporary because, let's be honest (I'm sure you have), it's really creepy. Of course, changing the name doesn't make it any less creepy than it actually is (to the general public). And yes; I was listening to Duran Duran when I "came up" with the name.

- Submitting data is now incredibly easy. When I first posted I had this incredibly complex scheme where anyone wanting to submit data had to email me in a specific format. It's now done all through web forms. All authoring is anonymous. I'm sure some people won't like that, but that's what I decided would be the best way short of a wiki style version history, which would be completely useless because most pages will not be edited even though they could be.

- There's a page there that tells you what movies and which actresses do not have photos. It would be great to have photos for every movie and every actress (and even greater to have every combination) so if you can send in some screen caps that would be awesome.

I'd like to thank everyone who posts on GC, you guys are awesome. I would like to especially thank everyone who has talked about movies here. Even if I did not reply to your post about a movie, there's a good chance I read it and either watched the movie, or else put it on my to watch list. Even more especially, I'd like to thank The Phantom for posting the UK TV movie guide every week. Even though I do not get UK channels, it has been a great source for new movies. Thank you all very much.

Re: the future,

Is there anything you would want to see on this site? When I started I was only vaguely aware of Clover Films, and while it's a great resource, I think Girls on Film could potentially be more useful--Clover Films just has a short summary and some screencaps. Anything I can do to differentiate the site I'd like to try.

Would anyone like some sort of social stuff? I don't really want to roll my own comment system since (in my experience) they're more pain then they're worth. I thought about adding Disqus comments, but I didn't because (given the nature of the site) some would not like a third party knowing they're even browsing the site. I have also considered setting up forums for it, but I'm not sure there would be enough interest in it to be worth it.

Any input on the site is appreciated, and if you get a chance adding any new content to the site would be awesome. Anything from adding a new movie, sending in new screencaps, fleshing out the movie description or adding a biography for an actress is appreciated.

I would also like to quickly say how much I love Nearly Free Speech Hosting ( nearlyfreespeech.net ), apart from their free speech policy (they'll host anything that's legal) they're pricing policy is probably the best you could find for a low bandwidth website, and probably for a high bandwidth website as well. If you want to start up a website, even if it isn't controversial, check them out.

Alex.
