One of our respected mods seems to feel that my post borders on being hate speech, so I wanted to be clear about this. The above post should NOT be taken as an expression of disdain for America. I hold no hatred for my country, its people or even its government. It is simply a point of principle that I will not hold to a lie, especially one as big as that contained in "The Pledge of Allegiance." I don't care about the Civil War (It was 150 years ago, the South lost--get over it already. I don't get Southerners' hangup about this.) I don't even care about the "under God" thing, even though I am an agnostic. I am not a traitor. I would still fight on behalf of my country if I had to. But I don't think the Pledge is currently indicative of what the USA is about; it only shows what it could be. On the day that it truly there really is liberty and justice for all, then I will proudly recite the Pledge.
