For example, Native American and Afro-Caribbean religions are certainly non-materialistic and involve a populated spiritual world. In spite of this world, most of them do not involve the idea of the God of monotheism, even if they put some entities above others in a hierarchy tree. Many of them include possession in their systems and even make it an important part of them. However, many of them don't have the always clear-cut good vs evil distinctions that Middle Eastern monotheists (and in general the Eastern Dharmic religions too for that matter) - sometimes even their "good" divinities have "evil" aspects or character traits.
But more importantly, many among them do not necessarily adhere to the idea that good is the larger force in the world, or will be predominant in some end-of-world future (rather than locked into a perpetual battle). In this case, "demonic" possession does not contradict the idea of good. Good exists, but it is not "logistically" superior to evil (or it is not clear-cut enough) in such a way that it can (or wills to) always prevent "demonic" possession.
As I said, this solves the Problem of Evil. It is not acceptable to Middle Eastern monotheism because it does so at the price of denying omnipotence or omnibenevolence (or both).
