But I am dying to see how to rationalize openly killing children, given how the LRA soldiers are overwhelmingly underage.

In fairness, many of the LRA's victims are also children. The LRA isn't exactly innocent.

That said, the appropriate humanitarian response (if any) is to flood the area with weapons with which the locals can defend themselves. It is certainly not a place where the United States should be sending troops.
