...I am not an assimilationist, and I do not, nor ever have, favored an assimilationist agenda. I have too many beefs with the present culture and its narrow conceptions of tolerance and diversity on many different levels outside of my GL to ever try to "fit in" with things as they now stand. I also agree it's largely impractical for the MAA community to attempt to do so, and I do believe that the LGBT community won certain inroads by selling out to an assimilationist policy and abandoning much of their once revolutionary stances for fundamental change in society. I understand that it was necessary to change tactics once the progressive era of the '70s was over, but I cannot support the manner in which they went out of their way to distance themselves from the minor-attracted segment of their community whom they once operated in relative harmony with, and tolerance for. As Judith Levine implicated in her book Harmful to Minors, the main reason the Right won during the '80s is because the Left let them.
