And that's why repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was a big mistake, it lessens our ability to create allies throughout a large part of the world.

And if you look at the cultural values in the places where populations are growing ( rather than shrinking ) you will see that future successes will be increasingly difficult if we don't closet or remove Gay troops.

The alternative would be to not intercede militarily on behalf of people whose values we find objectionable. And not sending troops out is unthinkable.
