A point made in David Brin's "Glory Season", about a feminist society that has almost eliminated the need for males ... but natural selection has replicated all the necessary "male" traits among females.

Some of the ideas are quite flawed from a science fiction point of view, in which we can presume that any future will have abundant access to artificial intelligence and robots which can fill these niches, but absolutely dead on in noting that nature demands that these niches be somehow filled.
