How do we do it? How can we remain.. positive?

I just, watched someone I love, and have loved for 2 years, go and throw herself at some guy cos she is lonely. She said, I am not her type. -_- (Btw, she is 17, nearly 18, I am not too much older than her, but I am.)

How can one remain positive, watching those they love and care for go to others, or make mistakes you just know are going to hurt them? I have no hope that she will be with me either.. It just hurts. Its not something I can work towards, nor something I dare hope for.

If I wanted a certain car, I would work for it, and get it.. yet with matters of the heart, I, we... are passed over time and time again. We watch our loves go away.. -_- I just want to know how to deal with this, it hurts.. bad..
