Almost all modern rifles are semiautomatic. There aren't many flintlocks in use these days, you know?

Good modern assault rifles are not fully automatic. They often have a three round burst feature, but even that is of questionable utility.

In short, from an operational perspective, a good modern rifle is about 98% as effective in war as an assault rifle.

Very well then. American ex-soldiers could easily train more soldiers - which is to say, one can get good soldiers even in the absence of an accredited educational institution.

I think you give our government too much credit. Let's just say that I know people with a great deal of military and government experience, and they aren't so confident ... and many military might end up on the militia's side anyway, depending on the circumstances.
