But I can't help think that if this man had been ped, public opinion would have been quite different. In fact, public opinion was quite different when public pressure pushed Neil Wilkes to burn himself alive - a man who, by all reports, was just as likable.

But if anyone needed proof that brutality and stupidity have not been eradicated from the "civilized" nations, here it is.
