I did watch this movie not long ago for the first time and have to agree. It is a beautiful and clever allegory about love between an adult man and a young girl. I also think the film shows how common deception is (and perhaps why it is so common). I also felt (something I rarely do nowadays) a strong affinity to the US - the scenes with the flag - and a memory of what freedom was or really can be.

Mischa Barton's character actually loves the man more than he loves her, or so it seems. Of course, she has one great advantage, she can show her feelings freely without deception....
