Ping Princessboy, wherever you are :)

"Parents are furious after a high school organised a cross dressing event as part of their home coming celebrations.

Olympia High School in Windermere, Florida is hosting a 'Switch-A-Roo' day where male pupils dress like their favourite girl, and vice versa.

A voicemail message from the school's principal left on the phones of all parents, said: 'girls dress like your favourite guy, and guys dress like your favourite girl.'

...

"Lolita Kollore says she doesn't mind special days, but thinks organised cross-dressing 'sends out the wrong message' to students.
Kollore, whose son is a sophomore, said: 'What I first thought, is 'Oh my God!

'They're promoting gay and lesbianism through cross-dressing.'

( And yes, that's definitely one "Lolita" I would kick out of bed. )

* ahem *

While the student Govt probably didn't think the historical context through, at least they aren't parading their ignorance of the use of ritual crossdressing in the "Carnival" sense as a promoter of traditional sex-roles.

Many cultures, including the Western Civ traditions use ritual breaking of rules as a way of both letting loose and of reinforcing social boundaries.

In fact, I'm surprised nobody has decried this as promoting of gender-stereotyped clothing by presuming that one could "dress as" a sex that they aren't.

( Does this school send girls home who wear pants or don't use makeup? )

Hmmmmm.

Ah, its nice to see the Daily Mail not only correct an English speaking American's Americanisms ( "favourite," ) but treat one parent speaking to Faux News as a story :)
