Seizure laws, even the most ostensibly logical, are a racket waiting to happen. When the state can steal without contest, it will. They don't even reduce criminality, because the criminals 1) don't think they are going to get caught 2) if they thought so, they would register stuff with false names and 3) they make the criminals poorer on conviction incentivating them to reoffend on release to get even. Of course, in most cases, like now, it's not even logical to think the asset seized and the crime are related. A house is related to a crime only through contortions of logic; unless the crime is about the house (fraud in the house purchase or rent?), how does a house become an accessory to a crime? To collect KP you need a drive of your own, but not a house of your own.

Police and Attorney departments pursuing seizures are thieves, in every sense of the word. Period. No rationalization allowed.
