We are partial to the "rational brain." Our educational system is built around cultivating it to the exclusion of the "voiceless" agent. And our philosophers tend to worship rational choice.

But split-brain experiments show that satisfaction with the choices we make comes from the other agent. And when the brains are severed, someone can vacillate over unimportant choices in near paralysis. So we do need "him" there.
