Good article on the problems with asset seizure ... and it would not take much to find many more excellent articles on the problems caused by such laws - shakedowns of innocent people, corruption of law enforcement, and so forth.

From the article, regarding a man who was prosecuted twice for the same "crime" (which the federal government has no authority to regulate):
"federal authorities initiated their case under the principle of dual sovereignty

That sounds an awful lot like double jeopardy ... which is one more thing that is explicitly prohibited in the law.
