And where, pray tell, did you get the idea that people will be stuck eating nothing but protein every day in a genuine socialist system? If you want to cynically critique the system, at least have a tiny working knowledge of what it is you're critiquing. The only choices capitalism offers us are those that can possibly make money for a tiny owning class of parasites. The people are slowly but surely catching onto this fact, which is what the fledgling Occupy Wall Street movement is all about.
Again, the issue is not the social system, but preventing a smarmy, manipulative few from becoming a group of pigs running all matters of the farm.
Um, dude, that's what capitalism, or any class-divided system, is predicated upon...an ever-diminishing few owning the industries and services that everyone depends upon for survival, and running all matters to retain an environment in which the vast majority do all the work and receive only a tiny fraction of the value of the wealth that their collective work created for those few "pigs." The issue is most def the social system if the social system in question is based on class divisions and production for the private profit of the owning few.
Lot's of luck in your hope to tame capitalism instead of replacing it with a more advanced and ethical socio-economic system. Trying to get the devil to love his subjects is not going to turn it to the side of the angels, dude; as hard as you try, you just can't polish a turd. Ask the multitude of reformists from the late 19th century to the present who couldn't get over their love affair with the system they were indoctrinated into accepting; the end result was akin to people trying to domesticate wild animals like wolves.
