Even deeper

One of the most consistent demands of the Occupiers is that college debt is pretty much unpayable these days; with tertiary education so damn expensive [translation to Austrian: "it's a Bubble"] and the job market so depressed. This is not some Far Left exaggeration: student debt already surpassed credit cards as the largest source of private debt in America. Now, you don't have to be a Marx-loving Red Commie to realize the essential injustice in bailing out the bankers for their mistakes that destroyed an economy, while holding a generation hostage or debt-enslaved for promising them productive and affordable loans to build their future and delivering them unproductive, unaffordable ones which ruin their future (Some of that is also due to existing inefficiencies in the higher education market as a whole, but even them can be traced to intervention and are not the students' to blame for, in any case). Whatever you think of the merits of governments subsidizing higher education (and I don't think highly of it, despite my own majority-government-subsidized higher education background), it's quite obvious that students deserve a better bailout than bankers.

Of course, many other of their most common demands reek too strongly of old protectionism, or of unsustainable welfarism, but this distracts none of their better founded grievances.
