The media and all are making a huge deal about this as always, but it is worth noting how many people just don't give a shit about hyperbolic claims of abuse.

Sorry, but I don't think that's the reason they're supporting him. They are supporting him because A) he is one the most successful coaches in the history of the game, and B) he was not the one who abused the boys. Had he been the one accused, I guarantee he wouldn't have gotten as much support. But even if he had, it doesn't mean people necessarily don't believe the claims; it means, like MJ, he is such a popular figure that many people could not reconcile their love of him with the concept of sexual abuse, and thus they simply reject the idea that he could do such a thing. Anyway, he wasn't the one who committed the abuse; I think the students believe it happened, but they worship Paterno and they also realize he's getting a raw deal by being fired for simply failing to call the cops. That's outrageous. He reported the incident to his superiors; they chose to ignore it, and Paterno didn't wanna make trouble for them. I get that and might very well have done the same in his position.
