The problem was made worse because David was a simple man and had poor English. He certainly could not defend himself in a court of law and the PD hadn't really helped him much. So, an innocent fellow went to prison for five years. It was an inmate legal beagle who helped him fight the government to get out. That fight took two years. Although I never worked on David Vasquez's case, I did help that inmate (and others) with other cases by typing. (I am a fast typist and I was very cheap.)
