I dunno about country music.

But with Disney and Nick, I believe you're confusing the age of their sitcom stars with the age of their audience. ( Its true, they used to try selling preteens to preteens. But now they sell teens to preteens; or at least some sitcom fantasy of teendom without any difficulties. )

As for programs about teens facing difficulties for teens facing difficulties; each media conglomerate whose LG-fare-network you mentioned has other channels aimed at that very demographic who have shown gay teens facing the challenges of being a sexual minority in a world of bullying.

ABC Family is owned by Disney and frequently uses teen stars developed on the Disney Channel. And films like Cyberbully have showed Disney starlet characters learning from their gay peers.

Nick is owned by Viacom, whose various networks include MTV. ( The US edition of Skins, anyone. )

And while I'd agree that it would be a sign of progress and acceptance if Disney and Nick had out and proud gay characters, it would be even moreso if Disney Junior and Nick Jr had gay and lesbian characters. But their demographics probably mean that acceptance will happen in their teen programming, rather than preteen sitcoms or preschool programming channels.
