When I said alternative forms of socialism, I meant things like Proudhonian mutualism, or market socialism as seen in places like Yugoslavia.

Marxism, last I checked, hasn't solved the calculation problem due to its inevitable top-down nature (instead of individuals making economic decisions, some central planning agency makes decisions for them), as well as its intent to abolish money (which facilitates the effective allocation of goods to their most effective use).

Market socialism and mutualism simply put the means of production in the hands of the workers, after which they do what they wish with them, instead of having some "democratically elected committee" do it for them. I still prefer free market capitalism, but they're decent options, and probably better than modern corporate statism.
