Truth in advertising notice: folks who write articles or press releases about CP violation are contractually obligated to say that this will help explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. That might be true, or it might not. My strong feeling is that we should be excited by discovering new particles of nature, and not rely on the crutch of relating everything to cosmology.

Indeed. The quest to unite the Einsteinian universe with quantum mechanics now seems to be the sole drive of physics these days, and it doesn't always make for good science. I'm still on the fence about string theory.
