If freegans simply pursue a hobby where they try to get by on waste products and not spend any money because it is in their self-interest to be as cheap as possible, I'll support them. Everyone acts in what they believe to be their self-interest, whether they acknowledge it or not, and that's a good thing, because unless you're still living with mommy and daddy no one else is going to look out for you. To consistently act in one's self-interest and pretend to selflessness, however, seems a bit hypocritical. That crosses the line from self-interest to selfishness, where an individual cares not what effect their actions have on others.
