It's not simply the matter of the laws...

...it's the matter that our culture inundates us with the belief that it's utterly immoral and even outright "predatory" for any heterosexual or bisexual adult to even have the mere desire to go out with her at this point in her life--simply because Hailee is legally under a specific arbitrary age. Our society has developed the sacrosanct cultural belief that morality goes hand-in-hand with these laws, as if the laws are based on some facet of nature, with the underlying assumption that all young people under the arbitrary AoC must be considered as mentally and emotionally incompetent--at least in comparison to any adult--as the laws would imply. It doesn't matter what the evidence or reality of the situation may be--in such a case, sentiment completely trumps rationality and common sense.
