I think most of us deal with this at one time or another - frequently for years.
As for myself, I recall dwelling on this thought once, and wondering if I could really be the monster that the world would tell me I was. Then one day as I was walking down a residential street and wondering this I happened to see a little boy, about two or three years old, standing in the doorway of his home. When he saw me he just smiled as big a smile as you ever saw and waved at me, and as I waved back I realized what nonsense all that talk about monsters was ... because I realized that I could never bring myself to hurt a little boy like that, and I don't even particularly like little boys. Why, then, should I be presumed to be a monster who would hurt the little girls that I do like?
Of course, reality is a little more complex, and we have to deal with the fact that there are deluded people who in their zeal to "protect" children do them great harm every day, and would be especially zealous in persecuting a child who they believed had been made "impure" by the dreaded pedophile gaze. We cannot simply consider the direct consequences of our actions, but also the indirect actions of others who in their foolishness would happily turn a pleasant experience into a terrible catastrophe - but even though we must deal with this reality, we should remember where the true fault lies, and work to build a brighter future where this is no longer a factor.
