A half-heard conversation

I sometimes like coming in into the middle of a conversation. It gives the imagination free rein.

I was walking home the other day and there was an auburn haired 8 year old walking with her grandmother.

As I passed, I distinctly heard her ask "Am I supposed to spit or swallow?"

It took several paces before I realized that she was discussing how to dispose of the gum she was chewing.
