I don't think you understand mental illness very well. Just because someone is coherent--or seems coherent--doesn't mean they aren't crazy. Insanity can run the gamut from people who have a distorted sense of reality to people who have a complete disconnect from reality, complete with the hallucinations and everything. Now, I'm not saying this guy is (or isn't) mentally ill; I am no expert on assessing that. But I do know that some insane people can come across as rational. Don't oversimplify the problem of mental illness.
