It is true, but, as I said in my reply to Alex Asimov - it does not mean that it is currently practiced, particularly by Western-dwelling Muslims. Like any large group, Muslims too are vulnerable to local prejudice, even when they are also victim of it in other ways. Even in Muslim-majority countries, actual social tolerance and actual practice of child marriage vary, a lot more than Islamophobes would have it.

But the short answer is still yes. Muhammad [SAAW] married Aisha when she was 6, consummated when she was 9. Child marriage is legal in Islam. Both her family and her have to consent to the marriage for it to be legal. But sex outside marriage, even with a child, is still considered adultery.
