I see no reason why if the relationship was good and it may able help if one knows the child for a long time, even before the relationship started. That they both would not stay good friends after (if) it has ended. Usually friendships are for lifetime, if something very bad doesn't happened to break that persons' trust in them i.e childhood friends. If the relationship with an LGF or LBF was good in terms of respect, then I see no reasons not to get involved, as both of them, child and adult.. would be cared for.

I suppose one could tell the child that one day, they could just be good friends. If the child, then still agrees to go deeper, then that is their own choice. Just my thoughts.
