Impermanence

All things change, all people change, one can never step into the same river twice.

Does that mean we should never enjoy the moment, and never make friends because we know that some day we must part? Shall we never admire a sunrise because we know that eventually it must set?

Of course not.

Naturally we should try not to make promises that we cannot keep, and falling out of love does not mean that we cannot continue to love and honor another person, nor that we must shirk our responsibilities to one another. We are much like teleiophiles in these respects, and there are no easy answers when one party stays in love and the other does not. Still, that does not mean that we should refuse to enjoy the marvels that life offers us while we may, and it especially does not mean that little girls must endure years of numbing sorrow to protect them from a sharper but shorter sorrow at some future date.

There may come a day when we may live indefinitely, but that day is not yet come - and we have all lost loved ones. Should we have pushed them away when they offered us their love, that we might not feel the pain when they depart?
