There may come a day when we may live indefinitely, but that day is not yet come - and we have all lost loved ones. Should we have pushed them away when they offered us their love, that we might not feel the pain when they depart?

It depends on the circumstances. If you get involved with someone knowing or expecting it to end at the appointed time and you can't be sure the other person will see it the other way, you owe it to them to be up front about that at least, but you should also be prepared to commit for the other person's sake, especially a child, who is more emotionally vulnerable than an adult. Kids are especially vulnerable to emotions when they hit puberty, and that's when you want to dump them? That's completely unfair. I don't know about you but if I really love a person, then I couldn't place such limitations on the relationship before it starts. I would expect my love to grow with them. It might not, but I wouldn't get into it expecting it to end when she ages out of my AoA. That is selfish and cruel.
