First off:
Mods, please delete this post further down the page. It is gettin gtoward the bootm and I wanted to bring the topic back to the top before it drops off the page; off the face of the earth. I posted it their by accident, but wanted it here. Please delete not this one, but the other one.
The link to it is: http://annabelleigh.net/messages/545065.htm
And when you're done, feel free to delete this paragraph as well as "attn. mods" in the post title. Or if you don't want to, that is fine too.

The topic is: "Should we use the word PEDOPHILE to describe ourselves, if most of the people in the situation we are using it will draw quick (but false and monstrous) conclusions about what it means and immediately close their minds to any productive discussion or debate about what it means; about who we are?"
I say No Fucking Way! We should not! We should instead not even substitute a euphemism for it, but rather a group of words to describe what it means; a group of words tailored made for each individual situation we use it in, and designed to provoke thought and productive discussion in each of those unique situations.

Qtns; You're right.
I agree that the war is on children more so than on us. But as opposed to with gays and colored's (who were hated for what they truly were--homo's for their sexual preference and colored's for their color), we are not are only hated for what we are but more so for the false assumptions they've attached to us (eg. - that we want to rape, and molest, and kidnap, and stalk, those youngsters we find attractive). That is the difference. And it is a big one, since those acts are highly criminal and as well as barbaristic and monstrous. But that is not us. And that is why using the word, in most contexts/situations, is damaging to all of us. It is damaging because in most people, is immediately brings to mind people who do such abominable things. If it only brought to mind, in people, that a pedo is someone who has a social/emotional, romantic and physical attraction for childrn, without including the urge to rape, molest, kidnap, or stalk them, I'd be all for using the word. At least then, we'd be like the gays and colored's were--hated for what we truly are. Don't you see this difference? It's one of being hated for who you are as opposed to who are fabled to be. And since we are fabled monsters who desire to rape stalk kidnap molest, kids, it is damaging to use that word in most general situations. But like I said: If we are using it in a situation that permits us to explain/expound and clarify our points, then that would be an exception. But to use it in situations where most people who are seeing and hearing it will draw quick conclusions and put up mental walls to any productive discussion or debate, is very very bad for us.
