Three cheers for Joss Whedon, for all the reasons you've mentioned. Yes, Angel did fall for her on first sight, when she was 15, and the show depicts them as having sex for the first time on her 17th birthday, which makes the show "child porn" under the stupid law in Canada, where it was, I believe, filmed.

But one correction:

"it was love at first sight for him, and later for her when she first saw him"

Actually, if I remember correctly, on her first sight of him, she didn't want some creep following her down a dark alley, and told him to get lost, and she didn't like him at all for quite a few more episodes after that, until she learned she could trust him.
