Naturally one should be honest right from the beginning, and kind and considerate even if things don't work out. I'm not saying that it is right to simply tell a girl one day, "Well, you're too old for me now and I never want to see you again." Obviously that would be cruel and unnecessary.

But if passions fade over time, that too is a lesson that young people need to learn, as well as the lesson that one should treat others with kindness and respect even if one is no longer "in love" with them. To love someone is not the same as being in love with them - the latter is a chemical reaction, the former is a choice.
