I *did* pursue a relationship with her. I started off babysitting her when her mother needed to work, but before very long I'd just call up and ask if I could take her to the zoo/park/movies/circus. I just loved being with her, and she loved being with me. I became her "big brother", the main male figure in her life. I would have given my life for her in an instant, without thought.

As we grew older we both changed. I went off to college in a different state and we grew apart. When I came back we still loved each other, but we weren't quite as close. Eventually her mother moved to a different state and we've had only a couple of contacts since then, the last instance more than a decade ago.

Twenty years later I still love her with my whole heart. That love will remain until the day I die. It has nothing to do with her physical appearance; it has everything to do with the incredible little girl she was, and the amazing woman I know she has become.

Could it be any more perfect?
