The article notes that a woman living in the complex thought he looked suspicious and informed the cops of that fact

This particular quote reminds me of something that happened in the past. How a meddling busy body can potentially ruin a life.

About 20 years ago or so a buddy and I were partying and were drunk. We had the munchies so we walked to the local gas station a few miles away. We went there, got some food and hiked back to party some more.

Well, in a neighboring town there was a shop that was broken into that night and some merchandise was stolen. Some busy body happened to see my buddy and I walking in another town about 5 miles away. So whomever it was called the cops on us. A few days latter I was called in for questioning. My buddy refused to talk with the cops. Then a few weeks latter the cops caught the real crook.

So this woman who said the man looked suspicious could be potentially ruining his life. Just like what happened to us years ago. I would hope there is some hard evidence like DNA. Because looking suspicious is not a good reason to brand someone a child rapist/murderer.

But if he did it, he deserves the harshest punishment the courts in his area can give out. If he didn't do it, he deserves more then an apology.
