...the term "MAA" doesn't so much describe a personal ideology as it does a complete fulcrum of attraction that includes a physical, emotional, social, and aesthetic component. An adult who simply physically lusts after underagers but has none of the other components I mentioned above to their attraction would not be an MAA, but a child or teen fetishist; an adult who had no major preference of any sort for children or adolescents, but tended to abuse them for opportunistic reasons would likewise not be an MAA, but a SCM [situational child molester], and these individuals most often share a residence with their victims (i.e., a home or a boarding school). There can indeed be genuine MAAs who are bad people, as we are human just like anyone else, but it's much more likely for a non-MAA to disrespect the boundaries of children or adolescents than someone who genuinely cares about kids. Such creeps do exist, of course.

And just for the record, at the present time, the terms "MAA" and "MAP" are pretty interchangeable. Some people in the community feel that "MAP" is a bit more inclusive of adolescent pedophiles than the term "MAA," so it's really a matter of personal preference. I am used to using "MAA," but I think "MAP" is perfectly fine, too.
