One guy I know has said that he desperately wanted to "bone" his teacher when he was in 2nd grade.

So, while I acknowledge the problems inherent in relationships with figures in authority, I agree that much too much can be made of it. For one thing, girls tend to seek out authority figures - that is what nature inclines them towards.

I think it is also important not to assign to sex such negative value. If a girl wanted to enjoy a movie or a good meal or a host of other things with a person in authority, that would be considered healthy and proper - but if she wishes to enjoy sex, it suddenly becomes the most horrific abuse. We might ask why.

So while I don't have a problem with a school firing a teacher for violating the school's rules, I agree that jail time is not an appropriate punishment unless there is evidence that the teacher applied pressure to the student. I am willing to have a lower standard in such cases than for rape cases, but ignoring consent and willingness entirely is going too far.
