It was not a dichotomy. If you will read what I said to Dante, you'll see that.

Religion is an individual right: freedom of conscience.

You cannot conflate religion and freedom of conscience. The two may overlap but they aren't the same thing. Religions are organized systems with particular dogmas. Individuals are individuals.

Now if you don't recognize freedom of conscience, pretty much everything goes out of the window too because you can be compelled to nearly everything.
