So we're going to write a law. It is going to do something, but we don't know what it is going to do. I believe the reason why the media is focusing so the sex offender neighbors is because they're easy targets. Forget about the fact they are not involved in the case other than living in the neighborhood, forget about the fact that unless the mother of Aliahna spent fifty bucks for a background check (and sites like Intelius are not always accurate) the she would not seen his history.
It seems we are unwilling to admit we simply can't prevent every tragedy, so we do the "next best thing" by finding a scapegoat. In this case, there are 15 scapegoats huddled together, their only common denominator is their label and the laws which make them live in this place together.
Someone in another article referred to the trailer park as a "haven." That implies a paradise, a place people WANT to be. A more fitting term may be "oasis." An oasis is a place in a desert that contains water. Laws that make 99% of land into a desert will find the target population living in that 1%. Well, those who don't decide to ignore the laws.
It does not matter if one, fifteen, or six hundred ninety-seven RSOs live in the community, the fact remains someone NOT a registered sex offender was responsible.
