i would be proud if someone said that to me.
if someone said they took the time to google my name, as a friend would do, trying to connect with that person, forming rapport best they can, genuinely interested. the people i would worry about is those who collect information behind your back. i'm just being your friend and saying hey i googled your name.

oh and by the way, i have googled the names of virtually every member of this site for years, because my GL insists that I do that, out of respect for my fellow human beings.
