It was one of my best friends who got me started on collecting dolls, a woman friend, the mother of my goddaughter.
In my view, the hobby first began as a statement about my manhood.
There's a certain unique quality of bravery or confidence about a man who knows how to play barbies.
Many macho type guys wouldn't get caught dead seen holding a doll.
In my opinion real men know how to entertain children.
most parents appreciate that I have a kid friendly house, they're pleased to see how good I am entertaining kids.
girls are in heaven at my house.
ultimately, any ridicule i've experienced over the years adds up to nada compared to the reward gained from knowing i've been someone interesting and memorable for some little angels.
I don't have many dolls, less than a dozen, but I continually buy new ones to keep a stock on hand in the toy chest. The collection isn't "mine" exactly, I don't keep them for myself. I give the dolls away to whoever may want or need one at the time. There are only 2 I am particularly fond of that I refuse to give away.
If a child has fun playing with a toy at my house, I usually let the child keep that toy and take it home.
