Gender is a grammatical category, nothing less, and nothing more.
There is no such thing as "feminine" and "masculine" beyond what there is in your genome.
The toys you play with, the garments you dress in, all of that is arbitrary and cultural dependent.
Even though I sincerely think that in general females are less attracted to "peacock" useless, bragging-rights pursuits than males; and conversely more attracted to "slow" kinds of activities and family building. But that "the kitchen and the square" exist doesn't mean that they are dichotomous, not for anyone in particular and not even in general.
Still, the only meaningful meaning of gender is "grammatical category, no longer productive in English, but still present in most European languages".
